We require a female personal assistant to support our teenage daughter who has is visually impaired and has a muscle weakness rendering her a wheelchair user and so requires handling and moving support.

You will assist our daughter in all areas of personal, and social life, both at home and in the community. Your role is to enable her to lead an individual and independent life in our home. She is a fun vibrant young person who delights in socialising and learning.

You must be reliable, able to work flexible hours, you must respect our privacy and understand our need for confidentiality. You will work under our direction are accountable to us, her parents and you should respond to our requests.

This job is part of a job share and will be for two or three evenings per week from 6.30pm to 9.30pm.

Personal Assistant Tasks

The work involves some or all of the following tasks. As our daughter’s needs vary, it is important that you are flexible about the work and agree to undertake other reasonable tasks.

Personal Requirements

Support to get in/out of bed or wheelchair using a mini-lift hoist
Support with dressing and undressing
Showering/bathing
Assistance with using the toilet
Assistance with hair, skin etc.
Support with with exercise routine

Domestic Needs

Occasional preparation and cooking of meals and clearing up
Some light general housework may occasionally be required
Changing of bed linen and help with our daughter’s laundry
Assisting our daughter to move around our home

General Assistance

To help with any chosen domestic activity, inside or outside our home
Assist our daughter into and out of car
Support our daughter with her schoolwork and any preparation needed for the next school day
Assist with getting to and taking part in social activities

Personal Assistant’s General Responsibilities

Respect me
Arrive at the agreed time, ready to work
Give as much notice as possible if you are going to be late or can’t come
Discuss any problems with me as soon as possible
Respect my possessions /equipment and use them only with my consent

Skills Required

Being kind, considerate and caring
Good sense of humour and ability to have fun with and relate to young people is essential
Being physically fit is important given the support our daughter needs getting in/out of bed etc.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – the successful candidate(s) need to be outgoing with an engaging demeanour (this job will not suit a shy, quiet person)
The successful candidate will need to confirm they already, or are willing to have a Covid Vaccine
