Unique opportunity for committed gardener We are looking for a full-time gardener to join our friendly team at Asthall Manor. At least some experience and a basic knowledge of (and love for) plants and the processes of gardening are required. You would be the second full-time gardener, working alongside our head gardener, with the assistance, when needed, of part-timers, volunteers and freelancers. Work would include pruning, hedge cutting, planting, irrigating, propagating, mowing and strimming, pool care and other garden duties. Much of this is physically strenuous work, and you need to be confident on ladders and sensible with machinery. Good attention to detail, common sense approach, strong communication skills and the ability to take instruction and work as a team are essential. There is also plenty of scope for initiative and creativity. Protective equipment would be provided, as would any necessary training, for the right candidate. We use a nature-first approach, using organic and regenerative principles. Hours are Monday to Friday 8 am to 5 pm and occasional weekend work (for extra pay). Full driving licence. This is not a live-in position. Salary dependent on experience. The garden was designed by Isabel & Julian Bannerman in 1998. It has now become known as the home of on form sculpture, a biennial exhibition of sculpture in stone which attracts over 7,000 visitors every other summer. There are some smaller open days, and group visits, but for much of the time, the garden is private and quiet.
