We are looking for a Chef to join the team of our busy craft beer pub in Stoke Newington £11.50 - £12.00 per hour depending on experience. Minimum 36-40 hours per week initially, with potential for more hours from the autumn onwards. Essential attributes: Enthusiasm and eagerness to learn Kitchen experience Willingness to lead quieter shifts in the absence of the head chef Desirable: Experience running a service Ordering and stock control Experience training junior members of the team The Axe is a craft beer pub in Stoke Newington, with a carefully selected beer list, complimented with a simple & delicious food menu made with high quality ingredients. You can expect reliably busy evenings with the main portion of the orders coming in 7-9pm. We do not currently open for lunch Monday- Thursday, but our service may extend to weekday lunch times in the autumn. Saturday afternoons get very busy during the colder months, with plenty of larger bookings, stretching on into the evenings. Sundays are an important day for the pub, with our Sunday roasts having a great reputation and bringing in a good chunk of the week’s food sales. This is an ideal role for someone ready to take on more responsibility, get some creative input and to develop their skills rapidly. We would expect you to be comfortable with running quieter shifts with the support of a kitchen assistant, and after full training, to be able to run the kitchen in the absence of the head chef, for example during annual leave. Whilst for much of the time there is a kitchen assistant on shift, you will be expected to get stuck in with some cleaning and washing up too when necessary. Whilst kitchen experience is required, we are happy to train and develop the right candidate, and we are hiring mainly on the basis on enthusiasm and willingness to learn. We are part of the Grace Land Group, which includes The Black Heart, The Earl of Essex, Red Hand, The Kings Arms (Bethnal Green) and The Bethnal Green Tavern. As a small-ish and growing company there is great opportunity for growth within the business, as well as the chance to work at different sites and build your experience further. Benefits include: 25% discount across all sites Staff drinks and food No split shifts Food safety and first aid qualifications Team trips and annual parties
