Description:
As a Casual Bilingual Assistant, you will help children and young people from Black, Minority Ethnic (BME) in Hampshire schools, including those learning English as an Additional Language (EAL) to improve their educational outcomes. This may include working with children and young people who are refugees/Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children (UASC).
You will use your bilingual skills to support pupils in all school phases from Reception to Year 11. In groups and on a one-to-one basis, you will support them to access the mainstream curriculum and to realise their aspirations for their futures. Your support will help raise attainment and ensure that the children’s cultures and languages are valued.
Acting as interpreter for parental discussions, you will also advise teachers of pupils’ first language development and ability, this will include informing teachers of areas where the children require additional support, for example when they are experiencing; trauma, racist abuse, and bullying or have special educational needs.
You will understand the importance of building and maintaining relationships to remove barriers to learning and have a strict regard for confidentiality.
