Charity People is thrilled to be supporting The Harpur Trust to find a Grants Programmes Manager. The Harpur Trust is a charity that support people to improve their lives by: providing and promoting education, offering help and relief to those in need, sick, in hardship or distress. They also provide recreational facilities with a social welfare purpose for the people of Bedford. Due to the organisation's ongoing strategic development, they are seeking an experienced Grants Programmes Manager to join their dynamic team.

The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We are seeking a self-starter, with excellent grants and project management skills to ensure that the Trust's grant making programmes run efficiently and broader community activities are supported effectively.

Key responsibilities:

  • Responsible for ensuring appropriate advice and support is provided to individuals and organisations seeking funding
  • Accountable for managing a caseload of grant applications from organisations and individuals; carrying out due diligence, visiting projects and liaising with internal Comms team to work on project and research promotion and dissemination
  • Research and Contribute to the development of new and existing grants programmes in line with the Trust's developing strategy.
  • Manage the Community Programmes Assistant
  • Ensuring grantmaking systems and processes are accurate, up to date, and GDPR compliant.
  • Contribute to ongoing improvement of processes and systems as well as the development of impact measurement.
  • Assist the Community Programmes Director to ensure accurate and timely preparation of agendas, papers and reports for grants related meetings
  • Contract management for relevant partnership grant schemes
  • Support the Community Programmes Director and the Communications Manager with projects involving the Harpur Trust schools and partners in the state education sector
  • Assist the Communications Manager with community events and represent The Trust at external events as required, including networking to promote the Harpur Trust

Ideally, we are seeking an individual with substantial experience of grant making, including grant making processes and who has strong numerical skills with an ability to analyse and interpret financial statements. You will have strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, as well as well as effective research and analytical skills. You will also have experience with grants database and working on multiple simultaneous projects and workstreams. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills & team working skills with the ability to build productive appropriate relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. Having the ability to comprehend complex situations quickly and to present information clearly and concisely to meet the needs of a range of different internal and external audiences is essential. Knowledge of charity law is desirable.
