Description

You will become part of our client's friendly, dedicated working environment and work with a highly motivated team, recognised for their knowledge and expertise and passion about food and farming. In addition to this they also offer, 25 days annual leave (plus, statutory bank holidays), increasing with length of service, company car provision and an attractive contributory, stakeholder pension scheme. [our client's Company Car Policy is under review and the successful candidate will have a company car or car allowance, dependant on the outcome of that review]

County Adviser Responsibilities

As the County Adviser you are the face of the company in your area, tasked with looking after the needs of around 950 farmer and grower members of all sizes and sectors. This involves helping them access expert support and guidance, working locally to advance our client’s wider lobbying objectives and crucially, managing and growing their subscription income each year, to ensure that our client can continue in their work.

In this role, no two days are the same, one moment you could be meeting with local MPs or helping train rural police and the next moment assisting a member in accessing professional advice or speaking to the public about farming. It’s a role which combines farm advice, business development, political campaigning, education and much more and, while the responsibility here is considerable, that is also what makes the role so interesting.

Our client is led by their members, and you will work closely with your elected officeholders in the county, to ensure that the needs of members are met and their concerns are raised at appropriate levels within the organisation. Working for our client at this level gives you a unique and unparalleled insight into the farming sector within your area and a chance to build relationships with some of the most interesting and exciting farm businesses in a way that is unique to the company.

As a County Adviser you will also need to draw upon your organisational skills, to organise and deliver everything from a local branch meeting in a pub, to an educational farm walk for the public or an official meeting with Westminster politicians. These events will often be in unique or unconventional venues, so you will often need to use your initiative to make sure they can take place in a professional and safe manner.

Reporting to the County Network Manager, you will manage a diverse team of Group Secretaries, who promote our client and their services at a local level. Your role is to manage your group secretary network to achieve their membership objectives to grow their representative power. Experience of managing a team is therefore advantageous.

Most importantly, you will be able to establish a firm connection with the local membership, and ensure their views are heard. To make that member connection, you will have an in-depth knowledge of current farming issues and a real passion for agriculture, whether gained through your education or your experience.

With the growth in road, rail and energy infrastructure projects across the region, an understanding of how these impact on their members’ businesses and experience in managing this process would be advantageous. Alternatively, a deeper knowledge of environmental land management within the context of food production would be beneficial to help members take advantage of new income streams as they arise. Knowledge of the local area and its agricultural/land-based industry landscape would be ideal but not essential.
