Description

Chief Operating Officer, The Crichton Trust, Dumfries

Salary circa £60,000 + Benefits

We seek a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead us through a period of unprecedented growth and development as we transition to a post pandemic world with a single-minded focus on the wellbeing of our people, place, planet and partners.

In our fast-changing connected world of automation, climate change and ageing we need to discover and develop new inspiring inclusive ways and places to live, work, learn, play and relax.

Using technology, lessons learned from the pandemic and a drive to Net Zero by 2030, we want to empower and enable a cross-generational, business, academic and individual knowledge exchange community that shapes our world and the ‘Future Economy’. We will do this primarily via the bold and enterprising custodianship of The Crichton, creating a world-renowned home and destination for innovation; a place for people to cohabit and share ideas – all inspired by The Crichton’s extraordinary history, places and spaces.

In a nutshell ‘We connect people, place and the past to shape the future’ – come and help us shape our future.

Prior to the coronavirus pandemic impacting on the UK, The Crichton Trust revised its Strategic Plan to cover the 15-year period 2020 – 2035. This, in turn, informed a review and restructure of the Senior Leadership Team which was completed in March 2020. Given the level of VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity, ambiguity) that shapes our environment today, we are developing a new ambitious plan to ‘build back better’ in a responsive, nimble and adaptive way that draws strength and purpose from a central focus on the wellbeing of our staff, our partners and all who visit our properties and grounds.

We see The Crichton as a key leader and enabler out of the immediate challenge of the pandemic to a healthier and more sustainable planet-friendly future in which we all fulfil our best future possibility as individuals, as partners and as organisations.

This is a rare opportunity to use your extensive operational leadership and financial acumen to make a lasting impact on an innovative, ambitious award-winning charity and social enterprise which self generates income from a diverse heritage, hospitality, venue and property business.

The Chief Operating Officer will play a critical role in The Trust’s custodianship of our historic estate and will secure the functionality of our business, drive extensive and sustainable Net Zero growth and oversee the Trust’s operations, financial performance and procedures.

Day-to-day, The Chief Operating Officer will manage the core work programme through supporting, leading and motivating the Senior Leadership Team and taking responsibility for the efficiency of the business and solid financial leadership.

The role will include deputising for the Chief Executive Officer, while they work to extend and further develop project work, by engaging with a wider set of external stakeholders, collaborators and partners.

Come and join The Crichton team in generating answers to the big challenges of our time in relation to our ageing society and wellbeing, the urgent need for carbon reductionand the rise of the knowledge economy (the Future Economy).

If you are excited by a vision for The Crichton to become a world-renowned place for inspiring people, catalysing connection and collaboration, and a driver of innovation, we want to hear from you.

How to apply: To apply for this position, please provide your CV and a covering letter describing your suitability for the role and addressing the specific requirements of the person specification. Applicants should also download and complete the Equal Opportunities Monitoring Form from the vacancies page of The Crichton Trust website and return it with their application by email to [email protected] no later than5pm on Monday 31 January 2022.
