Description

The MA Illustration & Visual Media, Design School (LCC) seeks a lecturer in illustration and image making with a particular focus on socially engaged practices. You will lead and support the development of curricula and teaching across the course that expands illustration and image making across disciplines, focuses on socially engaged practices and challenges the community of practice in questioning assumptions in visual culture.

You are responsible for teaching, administration, assessment, curriculum development, and on-going scholarship within the discipline. You will work collaboratively within a course team, deploying specialist expertise to develop pedagogy and the curriculum in innovative and critical directions and make a significant contribution to the quality of learning and support students receive to enable them to complete their studies successfully.

You will also work with the Course Leader, students and colleagues across the college in promoting and developing the subject through conferences, public exhibitions and other contributions to research and knowledge exchange. You will develop partnerships and collaborations with industry and academic partners as well as bring your own research and/or practice to bear on the development of the subject and the course.

Why choose us?

London College of Communication is a pioneering world leader in creative communications education. With the communications sector constantly evolving at a rapid speed, we work at the cutting edge of new thinking and developments to prepare our students for successful careers in the creative industries of the future. Our course provision reflects the breadth of expertise housed within the most diverse creative agency including: journalism, advertising, PR and publishing; photography; film, television and sound; communications and media; graphic communication; spatial communication; design cultures; and interactive and visual communication.

Your profile

You will have previous experience of teaching in HE or a comparable context, and in delivering a high-quality student experience with knowledge of curriculum development and assessment. You should be comfortable working with diverse cohorts of students and committed to a teaching approach that integrates theory and practice and engages students through a combination of innovative pedagogy, knowledge exchange and/or research. You will have or should be willing to attain, with UAL’s support, a relevant teaching qualification or recognition.

An MA or equivalent relevant industry experience in fields associated with illustration and visual media is essential. You will have a strong commitment to the advancement of your field, critical discourse in contemporary image production and theoretical and technical exploration of it. Your practice/research may challenge traditional expectations of illustration and you will be proactive and actively contribute to the course and programme’s aims and vision, especially with a focus on collaborative and socially engaged image making practices.

You should be a specialist practitioner and/or researcher who is keen to use your academic and/or industry-based experience to support the development of student work. You should have a strong understanding of the contemporary context of illustration and visual media in an academic and/or professional setting and be engaged in relevant networks and communities of practice within this and/or related fields.
