Description
Required to start in September 2022 or sooner
Founded in 1646, Reading Blue Coat is a leading independent day school of 820 pupils; 719 boys aged 11 – 18 and a further 101 girls in the co-educational sixth form. From September 2023 Reading Blue Coat will welcome girls into Year 7 with the intention of being fully co-educational by September 2027. The School is located on a beautiful 46-acre campus in the village of Sonning, just outside Reading.
The School employs over 170 staff, of whom 50% are academic staff, and provides a stimulating, friendly and supportive atmosphere in which each pupil can realise his or her full intellectual, physical, and creative potential.
An enthusiastic and inspiring Latin and Classics specialist with outstanding subject knowledge is required from September 2022 to lead this excellent department.
The Classics Department provides a stimulating and interesting curriculum, introducing pupils to Latin and the ancient world and supporting them in their endeavours throughout the school. The number of pupils studying the subjects have increased significantly over the last two years. Broadening the pupils’ interest and engagement with the Classical world is paramount to the department’s philosophy and a number of field trips, co-curricular activities and clubs are on offer to facilitate this.
Applicants should have a good Honours degree relevant to the teaching aspects of the role, and will preferably have qualified teacher status, although the School will accept applicants who are on an accredited programme working towards Qualified Teacher Status. You must be able to teach Latin and Classical Civilisation to A Level; Greek is welcome, but not essential. You should be able to demonstrate vision and leadership attributes.
You will be expected to contribute to the co-curricular offerings of the department and the wider life of the School, to which your energy, warmth and pastoral instincts will lend themselves
The School provides a vibrant and forward thinking environment in which to teach, and you will join a highly committed and enthusiastic academic team.
Reading Blue Coat School is recognised as one of the top ten independent schools offering the best value in the UK.
