Description

Sheffield City Council is seeking to appoint an experienced Air Quality Officer to play a key role in delivering major improvements to the air people breathe across Sheffield.

Here in Sheffield, we want our air quality to be cleaner and healthier for all who live in our city. As part of our One Year Plan, we are committed to setting a higher standard for the people who live here and share Sheffield’s air. This means we need to reduce air pollution as fast as possible. The Council has also a declared ambition to become a net-zero carbon city by 2030.

With significant experience in air quality monitoring and management, including the delivery of interventions to reduce emissions you will develop and deliver air quality programmes that will be crucial in ensuring the organisation achieves its clean air objectives.

You will be expected to play a key role in the implementation and monitoring of our proposed Clean Air Zone, as well as working closely with colleagues on other initiatives such as our Connecting Sheffield programme, a £50 million programme which aims to transform the transport infrastructure across the city by increasing modal shift, active travel and public transport.

To be successful in this post you will need to have considerable experience of air quality modelling as well as considerable knowledge of legal and regulatory frameworks and be able to utilise this experience to develop practical solutions to the challenges we face.

You will be required to work closely with our partners and stakeholders to help create strategies and delivery plans aimed to improving our air quality and wider benefits this will help to achieve.

You will require excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to develop and build strong relationships both within and outside of the organisation.

If you feel that you have the relevant skills and expertise to make a difference, we want to hear from you.
