Description

You will develop key understandings of our client's students at Hertfordshire and play a vital part in the organisation’s development. The role covers a wide range of topics, including large research projects and advising the development of services based on feedback. The post holder reports to the Student Voice Manager as well as working closely with senior staff, the wider staff team, Managers and Elected Officers and other student leaders.

Research Lead Responsibilities: (including, but not limited to)

• Take a lead on the development and delivery of research work within the organisation, including but not limited to: Analysis of institutional research and data – including raw data where available, University commentary on institutional research and analysis of research within University competitor sets. Analysis of national research and sector trends.
• Conduct market research amongst University students in order to: Appropriately determine student feedback on a variety of issues related to University and Students’ Union services. Inform student representation.
• Segment the UH student market to better inform service delivery and representational work
• Analyse data and evidence held by the Union through University- and Union-led research projects, democratic structures, and the Union’s Advice and Support Centre to inform the Union’s policy and research agenda.
• Produce high quality written publications for various internal and external committees.
• Present research findings at senior University and Union committees/meetings
• Ensure the Union’s staff, managers, elected officers and student representatives are briefed on market and social research to develop and promote an understanding their members and to support student feedback shaping service development across the whole Union.

Research Lead Requirements:

They’re looking for a candidate with strong research experience, who is confident and excels in data management, report writing and presentation delivery. This candidate will be passionate and enthusiastic about research, with a strong desire to continue developing and enhancing student experience here at Herts.

Essential

• Good general education, to degree level or relevant experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to a variety of audiences
• Sound knowledge of research methodologies (quantitative or qualitative), data collection methods and associated data analysis techniques including statistical significance testing
• Ability to create and maintain strong working relationships with a wide range of people including university staff and external stakeholders
• Flexible working, including evenings and weekends where required.
• Understanding of and commitment to the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion
• Proficient IT skills including Microsoft Office, data management and other relevant software’s
• Experience of providing briefings to a variety of stakeholders
• Experience of writing in-depth research reports

Desirable

• Experience using or knowledge of statistical analysis programmes such as R or SPSS, and/or a desire to develop these skills
• Applicable Knowledge of the QAA Quality Code for Higher Education
• Experience or qualifications in writing and delivering training
• Experience of project or event management
• Experience of people or volunteer management, or working with Students
• Evidence of continuous commitment to career and personal development
• Appreciation of the culture and working arrangements within Students’ Unions
• Knowledge of key issues affecting students in Higher Education
• Passionate about ensuring all students feel represented whilst at university.
• Self-motivated and self-reliant
• Punctual and well organised
• A good team player and proactive with drive and enthusiasm
