Description

The starting salary for this role is £31,273 per annum based on a 36-hour working week.

“Working in this team has supported my development and growth in my role and I feel more satisfied and engaged than I have in the last few years. Sometimes the type of work we support can be challenging but having the support of my team alleviates any potential stress.”

We are pleased to announce two permanent opportunities for People Consultants within Surrey County Council’s People Consultancy Team. Reporting to the People Consultant Lead, you will be joining a friendly and supportive team of ten People Consultants which sits within the Business Partnering and Employment Practice function.

Working alongside managers and stakeholders across the council, you will be equipped with a “can do” attitude reflecting a commitment to continuous improvement.

As a People Consultant you will be responsible for providing managers across the council with HR advice on Employment Tribunal cases and operational project work using coaching, restorative approaches and technical advice. Our team also work with internal and external stakeholders and business partners on a day to day basis.

You will confidently manage case work spanning the full range of People and Change issues across all areas of the business in addition to providing HR support to restructures and TUPE projects. Outcome focused, you will ensure that cases allocated are resolved in a timely manner and in line with legislation/policies and good practice. Role modelling our coaching approach, you will have the ability to coach managers through People issues.

Although this role involves working as part of a well-supported team you will be given the tools to work independently and flexibly as the business needs to allow you to deliver work to a high standard.

This role is open to remote working meaning you aren't required in the office 5 days a week. We’re less about you driving to work and more about us collectively driving down our carbon footprint. We care about how you work rather than where you work; the people rather than the postcode. In support of our people and our greener futures strategies, we’d welcome a conversation with the successful candidate on what remote working may look like for you.

We are looking for someone who demonstrates the following:

  • Delivering high quality HR advice in the following areas of ER casework: Disciplinary, Grievance, Managing Absence and Performance
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationshipswith stakeholders, departments, managers and customers to engage and consult on plans or projects as appropriate
  • The ability to work autonomously with initiative and to engage, develop and consult on plans or projects as appropriate
  • Have or be working towards CIPD qualification or be able to evidence equivalent knowledge and understanding of People and Change disciplines

At Surrey, our values and behaviours are just as important as our skills and abilities. They shape who we are as an organisation. Find out more about the values we follow.
