Description

SENIOR REGIONAL OFFICER X 2 (REPRESENTATION AND LAY SUPPORT)

Based in the NEU London office (Wandsworth)

Commencing salary £57,361 plus £1,056 lunch allowance

The National Education Union is a force for change in the world of education, bringing together more than 450,000 teachers, lecturers, support staff and leaders working in maintained and independent schools and colleges across the UK.

We are now seeking to recruit two Senior Regional Officers (Representation and Lay Support) in the NEU London office in Wandsworth. The Senior Regional Officer (Representation) will be responsible to lead and manage a team in efficiently and effectively supporting members, activists and lay officers in a defined geographical area within the region and to contribute to the strength of the Union by overseeing, monitoring and evaluating the representational work across the region. To be successful in this role you’ll need to have an excellent record of successful casework management, including undertaking high level complex casework coupled with knowledge and understanding of the education systems operating in the UK and relevant legislation. Essential in this role is also an excellent understanding on trade union structures and district/branch management.

The other role we are recruiting is for a Senior Regional Officer (Lay Support) whose focus will be the monitoring and evaluating the support given to local officers in their work and the administration of their districts and branches in the region. The postholder will also be required to support districts and branches in recruitment, bargaining, representation, equalities and organising work. Previous experience of conducting successful negotiations on behalf of members individually and collectively, together with strong knowledge of how unions operate within the UK educations frameworks are also essential.

Prospective applicants are advised that these are full-time roles, but we would welcome applications from individuals seeking part-time, job-share or other flexible working arrangements.

Prospective applicants are also advised that both roles are mobile roles, so having a full and valid driving licence is essential. Also, due to the nature of the work involved, the postholders will be required to attend regular activities, conferences and meetings away from the normal place of work, which will involve stays away from home. These will be regionally and nationally.

In addition to salary and luncheon allowance, we offer good conditions including 35 days’ annual leave plus Christmas closure days and a generous pension scheme. Salary and benefits are pro-rata for part-time applicants.

Further details can be downloaded from our website via the button below where applicants will also be able to complete an online application – for their preferred role - on our recruitment portal, by the stated closing date of mid-day Wednesday 30 March 2022.

THE UNION IS FUNDAMENTALLY COMMITTED TO EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES IN ITS POLICIES AND PRACTICE.
