Description

The Senior Press Officer is a vital part of the Commission’s external relations function. You will lead in developing external positions, targeting priority outlets and journalists, and proactively creating, shaping and placing media stories, articles and interviews which help support the achievement of regulatory outcomes. You will also triage and respond to reactive media enquiries as a key member of a busy and fast-paced Press Office.
This work matters: by ensuring the Commission’s work is visible and well understood, you will play a direct role in building public, public trust and confidence in charities.
You will be need to politically astute and media savvy, with a sharp understanding of the external operating environment. You will work to tight, competing deadlines, and play an influential role in a small and busy team.
Job description
- Ensuring incoming media requests are triaged and handled swiftly and appropriately.
- Providing considered advice to seniors on media handling strategies and working constructively with colleagues across the organisation to grow our impact and reputation as a proactive risk-based regulator.
- Identifying proactive opportunities to set out the Commission’s broader narrative to agreed target audiences via national, regional and charity sector press.
- Producing consistently high-quality written outputs, often on contentious and complex issues to tight deadlines; including press releases, statements, blogs, articles Q&As and other materials.
- Developing effective and measurable communications plans, identifying and achieving clear objectives using appropriate publications and media channels and building strong relationships with key media contacts.
Responsibilities
• Excellent written and oral communications skills. Able to write and shape copy and capture the appropriate tone and voice
• A demonstrable ability to work flexibly and effectively under pressure, manage multiple targets and deadlines
• Strong analytical skills and sound judgement to evaluate complex information to support decisions in media handling
• Excellent influencing skills, and ability to build relationships internally and with journalists
• You will be politically astute and media savvy with strong knowledge and interest of public policy issues and current affairs.
