Parliamentary and Public Affairs Coordinator
Reporting to: Campaigns Manager
Salary: £31,000 per annum, FTE
Hours: Ideally Full time - 37.5 hours per week but part time candidates (minimum 22.5 hours per week) will be considered.
Location: Ideally in or around London, with regular visits to the Milton Keynes office (flexibility will be required due to the nature of the role).

The vision of this charity’s campaigns team is to be a campaigning voice that acts as an agent for change for spinal cord injured (SCI) people and for organisational growth.

The Parliamentary and Public Affairs Coordinator will make full use of all of the organisation's resources, membership and supporters to build a strong evidence base and coordinate activities that will:

  • Actively support the effective and successful delivery of campaigns which energise the SCI community, politicians, funders and the public.
  • Help develop an active campaigning network of MPs, peers and charity staff.
  • Develop and deliver innovative campaigning strategy and tactics that bring about successful campaign outcomes and create and attract fundraising opportunities.

The Parliamentary and Public Affairs Coordinator role is central to the success of this charity’s campaigning activities, and delivering lasting change that supports people with an SCI and enables them to lead a fulfilled life.

Key Tasks / Skills:

  • To represent this charity to external audiences in the political, government and other opinion-forming arenas when required.
  • To support the development of working alliances with partner advocacy and campaigning organisations that support, and can help advance, the charity’s campaigning objectives.
  • In liaison with other members of the Campaigns team and the existing network of SCI people and contacts in the SCI Community, to consolidate and develop this charity’s links with policy makers and build relationships with MPs.
  • To provide secretariat support for the 'All-Party Parliamentary Group for SCI’, supporting the APPG chair as required and maintaining a calendar of APPG meetings and activities.
  • To maintain accurate contact details for the APPG members and supporters, and to develop ways of increasing active support for the APPG across both groups.
  • To plan and deliver ad hoc campaign related events, such as parliamentary receptions, collaboration events and focus groups.
  • To assist the campaigns manager in supporting the Fundraising team through the provision of materials/information, attendance at meetings or as is otherwise required.
  • To develop mutually beneficial relationships with other disability and health-related APPGs.
