Description
The starting salary for this position is £31,273 per annum based on a 36 hour working week.
We are looking for two experienced Business and Finance Officers to work alongside colleagues in the Finance team within Surrey County Council’s Land and Property Service (L&P).
We currently have two positions available:
- 1x Permanent, full-time (36 hours per week) position
- 1x Six-month fixed-term, full-time contract or secondment opportunity
Surrey County Council maintains an operational property portfolio of 2000 buildings, providing key services to the residents of Surrey. This is a wide ranging and fascinating estate, ranging from fire stations to offices, adult social care facilities to schools, farmland to libraries.
You will be part of a team delivering a variety of finance and budget monitoring tasks including variance analysis and other finance support tasks whilst working closely with colleagues in the Business and Finance Management Team; providing a high quality business and finance support service to all L&P teams.
We are looking for people with advanced knowledge of Excel, great interpersonal skills, a keen eye for detail alongside an analytical and proactive approach to join our friendly team. The role is focused on business and finance delivery but may also be required to assist in other tasks within the wider team.
One of the main deliverables for the role is to provide high quality and proactive business and finance support to all L&P teams. We are looking for someone who is able to apply a flexible approach and provide a wide range of support functions and assist the teams wherever required.
As a Business and Finance Officer, some of your main responsibilities will include:
- Provide ongoing business and finance support, budget monitoring and analysis and assist with forecasting tasks
- Carry out periodic finance month- and year-end processes, including accrual calculations, forecasting, variance analysis, adjustments and reporting tasks to the L&P teams
- Carry out a variety of analysis tasks and reconciliations to support the Business and Infrastructure team to ensure a high quality service
- Action any finance audit tasks from Central Finance for dedicated areas of L&P
To be shortlisted for interview your CV and personal statement must clearly evidence the following as a minimum requirement:
- Good knowledge of IT systems with excellent skills in all MS Office programmes including advanced Excel
- Ability to demonstrate a track record in a busy Finance environment/team
- Ability to work to tight deadlines
- Ability to manage allocated tasks and take responsibility for delivery
- Be a quick learner and able to work flexibly as part of a team
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a high standard of listening, spoken and written English
The team currently operates from our Woodhatch base in Reigate but with full flexible working arrangements in place. Staff will need to operate in a flexible way to meet the needs of our customers and work demands. Agile working methods allow business to be conducted from multiple locations.
