The Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers is one of the UK's largest trade unions.

A vacancy exists for a Training Officer, based at the Union’s Warrington Office in the North West Region which includes North West England, North Wales and Northern Ireland.

The salary is £43,918 pa rising to £49,892 pa after successful completion of the probationary period. There are no set hours for this position, and the post holder will be expected to be adaptable and flexible to meet the needs of the job. The post holder will be required to live within 50 miles of their office base. While the post holder will have particular responsibility for delivering training in Warrington and Northern Ireland, they will also be required to carry out training duties in other regions throughout the UK. Overnight stays will also be required.

  • Final salary pension. Generous holiday entitlement – 24 days rising to 32 days (pro-rata to commencing month in holiday year and number of days a week worked). Free health assessments (post probation). A Union car will be provided, and the successful applicant will hold a full driving licence.

The principal duties are: to be responsible for the education and training needs of members in this region; to prepare for and deliver training courses; and assess the training needs of Union staff, Usdaw representatives and members.

The successful applicant will possess: a degree in a relevant area or equivalent relevant experience in a similar position; the ability to develop training resources, use a variety of training methods, and be able to respond to members varying training needs; excellent communication skills; the ability to work under pressure; and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
