Our client: an international membership organisation, a qualifying body and a provider of resources to encourage innovation and excellence in their field worldwide. The organisation helps influence infrastructure policy, exchange knowledge and best practice alongside promoting the civil engineering profession.

The Regional Director role
The role is contractually based out of offices in Glasgow, leading a regional support team of 3 staff members.

Salary is up to circa £55,000 plus a £6,000 car allowance and good benefits package.

Hybrid location: Glasgow offices (1-2 days a week), blended with home working.

Overall purpose
The Director is responsible for the leadership and direction of the Regional team in Scotland.

Working with the regional team and members, the Regional Director will lead on the delivery of organisation’s vision, core purpose and objectives through the implementation of the regional business plan.

Key strategies include:

  • Public Voice - raising the profile of infrastructure issues, the role of civil engineers and civil engineering through media coverage and public awareness
  • Knowledge Transfer - providing appropriate forums for members in Scotland to enable them to keep their knowledge and skills up to date and relevant
  • Member Communications
  • Professionalism - promoting lifelong learning

This senior role involves extensive work with stakeholders. Key relationships include:

  • Members of the Scottish Parliament
  • Government Ministers, Advisers and Agencies
  • Local Government Officers, Councillors and Assembly Members
  • Local Members of Parliament
  • Regional Committees and special interest groups
  • Members
  • Departments within the organisation
  • Local media contacts
  • Economic Development Agency contacts
  • Other Engineering and Construction professional bodies
  • Universities, HE/FE Colleges

Public affairs and policy work accounts for around 50% of this role.

The remainder of the role is all about adding real value to the regional membership offering and collaborating with other organisations to raise the profile of civil engineering in Scotland.
