Description
We are a charity working to transform the lives of vulnerable young people, working to prevent youth homelessness and provide a home to 763 young people every night. We reach a further 10,000 young people and their families through our other key services, such as counselling, support and advice, mediation and youth work. This is challenging yet rewarding work that helps the young people we support to belong, contribute, and thrive. You can hear our inspiring Young People's Stories HERE.
The Project
We provide accommodation and support for 16+ Older Looked After Young People (OLYP), Care Leavers and Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC) across three services. Our specialist supported accommodation services encourage young people into education, employment or voluntary work, help them to gain life skills and empower them to live thriving lives in independent accommodation. We take a trauma-informed approach and follow an asset-based model focused on safeguarding and positive risk-taking.
The Role
We are looking for a permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week) Support/Project Worker to join our fantastic and supportive teams across Horsham and Crawley. You will coach young people to achieve their ambitions and acquire skills they need to live independent, fulfilling lives. A key focus will be to inspire and encourage young people as they seek employment, volunteering and training opportunities and keep a clear record of their journey. You will record all incidents and safeguarding issues and share appropriately. You will also identify, map and encourage the growth of each resident assets, strengths and talents.
Please note, this role is part of our Older Looked After Young People project and is not part of our projects at the Horsham Y Centre or Crawley Foyer.
This role is on a rolling rota - you will work 5 days in 7 days, consisting of onsite shifts between 8am and 10pm; Monday – Sunday (includes 2 out of 4 weekends worked).
Who You Are
We are looking for a dynamic, innovative individual who is passionate about supporting young people at risk and supporting them to lead in independent lives. You will have a strong understanding of the risks, challenges, and opportunities for young people and be able to inspire them to develop their talents. A confident and capable communicator, you will be able to enhance learning and provoke thoughtful reflection. You will be a well-rounded coach who can challenge and support when appropriate, along with an awareness of all aspects of safeguarding.
We also know that there are great candidates who will not fit everything we have described above, or who have important skills we have not mentioned. If that is you, please do not hesitate to apply and tell us about yourself.
You must hold a current driving licence and have access to your own car.
