Description

Strategic Communications Manager (Education and Students)

Public Affairs Directorate, University Offices, Wellington Square, Oxford

Oxford University is news. Ranked number one in the world, everyone wants to know about our teaching and research, our students and academics. We have great stories to tell about the inspiring and transforming effect our teaching has on young lives. We are also at the heart of crucial national debates, including how we extend the opportunities of an Oxford education among all communities in society.

We are now looking for a creative, highly skilled and experienced communications professional to fill the role of Strategic Communications Manager with special responsibility for Education and Students. You will be an enthusiastic advocate for Oxford University, building international, national and regional understanding of our teaching and the contribution our students make. Reporting to the Head of University Communications, you will devise and deliver multi-channel campaigns, informing the world of the benefits of our teaching and our determination to make it available to talented students of all backgrounds. You will devise entertaining ways to tell engaging, people-led stories about Oxford, working with an extensive network of media contacts and external stakeholders.

The successful applicant will have extensive experience of handling national and international-level reputational issues across print, broadcast, digital and social media. Media relations are a key part of this post, and you will deliver positive coverage for the University while responding robustly to a high level of press scrutiny and challenge. You will be liaising regularly with senior members of the University and its colleges, with colleagues across higher education and with politicians and policy-formers interested in education and admissions issues. You will possess excellent interpersonal, diplomatic and advocacy skills and the ability to communicate complex issues succinctly and entertainingly across a variety of formats. A detailed grasp of higher education issues, particularly the debate around admissions and access, would be a distinct advantage. This is a hugely varied and demanding role for someone who will relish the challenge of working for an ambitious, globally pre-eminent university while building strong connections with key players and opinion-formers in the higher education field.

The closing date for all applications is 12.00 noon on Friday 10 June 2022.
