They provide hope - they are, and they empower people affected by dementia to be, a leading force for change - using cutting edge research and influencing to push for breakthroughs that’ll change the lives of people affected by dementia, now and in the future.
Together, they will make sure people living with dementia and their carers live more fulfilled and less fearful lives, free from stigma and inequality.
About the role
A dementia-friendly community is one in which people with dementia are empowered to have high aspirations and feel confident, knowing they can contribute and participate in activities that are meaningful to them. A dementia-friendly community means people in these communities will have a better understanding of dementia. People living with dementia and their carers will be encouraged to seek help and support; and also will feel included in their community, increasing independence and having more choice and control over their lives.
The Dementia Friendly Communities Coordinator will work in partnership with a range of organisations in Nottinghamshire, including people with dementia and Dementia Action Alliances to:
- Deliver targeted training and dementia information sessions within the local community
- Network at relevant events, gatherings and groups
- Raise the profile of dementia friendly communities through posters, leaflet distribution, social and mass media
- Support local campaigning activity which champions the rights of people affected by dementia
The project will aim to raise diagnostic rates in the county by working in partnership with GPs and other primary care services.
The role will also include supporting the development of self-sustaining peer support groups including support to B.A.M.E. communities.
