Description

Pembroke College Oxford aims to appoint an outstanding individual to the post of Home Bursar.

A constituent college of the University of Oxford, Pembroke has a long history of informality. Its main site is compact and known for the colour and beauty of its grounds and distinctive historic architecture, which sits harmoniously alongside a modern extension (the Rokos Quad area and buildings). Nearby on the Thames is an annex which will soon accommodate significantly more graduate students than previously with 80 new rooms opening in the Autumn. Another significant milestone will be the 400th anniversary of the College’s founding in 2024, which will be marked by a special programme of events and public engagement.

Committed to academic excellence, Pembroke has a warm and welcoming community of more than 400 undergraduates, nearly 300 graduates, 30 visiting overseas students, 40 Fellows and some 123 support staff.

The Home Bursar – a key member of the College – is charged with managing the operational departments: Catering, Accommodation and Housekeeping, Conferences, Maintenance, and Front of House and Security (Porters’ Lodge). The post holder will also play a lead role in designing, selling and delivering commercial conferences and events working closely with the Bursar and the Academic Fellows. The Home Bursar will be elected a Fellow of the College, reflecting the seniority of the post and the importance of the role.

Candidates should demonstrate outstanding leadership, interpersonal and communication skills, with a service ethos and customer focus. They must have successful general management experience in a complex organisation, with a proven track-record of inspiring, empowering and supporting staff. They must also be an empathetic “people person”, appreciating the need to engage and build consensus with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including young people, as part of policy and decision-making. They should be diplomatic, able to influence and juggle conflicting priorities, whilst demonstrating flexibility, creativity and the ability to work collaboratively in pursuit of the College’s educational mission.

To apply, please visit Minerva's website, and send a covering letter and CV to[email protected] by noon on Friday 10th June 2022. The successful candidate will be expected to take up their appointment no later than October 2022.
