Senior Marketing Communications Officer

Ref No: UN4067

Job Type: Full Time Permanent

Salary: £35,326 - £39,739 per annum

Location: Waterside Campus

Closing date: 27 June 2022

Interview date to be confirmed

You will be supporting the Deputy Director of Public Relations and Corporate Communications in all areas of the team’s work, but particularly with PR and media relations, social media, multi-channel campaigns and publications. Your day-to-day tasks will include media monitoring and improving journalist engagement, as well as writing, editing and disseminating copy for a variety of communications channels, such as the website, social media, corporate publications and the press. You will be able to come up with creative approaches to publicising news and have the initiative to source new stories yourself.

We want you to be able to carry out your work in a way that best supports UON and our students, but also you as an individual. We understand this may vary between different areas of the university as well as from one person to another. With Smarter Working you can work with increased flexibility, if you would like to, which can facilitate greater freedom and autonomy.

About You

Applicants should have demonstrable experience of working in the full range of public relations disciplines within a large organisation (media relations, internal communications, social media, public affairs, multi-channel campaigns and publications).

A high level of organisational skill and ability to manage multiple tasks is vital, as is the ability to manage workload when unforeseen circumstances necessitate a shift in resource priority. To this end, demonstrable experience of communications within a crisis scenario would be beneficial.

Ideally, you will have a knowledge of, or background in, journalism/media including media law.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in PR or Marketing or related subject and or professional qualification such as CIM/CIPR/NCTJ Professional Certificate/Diploma or equivalent experience.

Faculty/Department

Marketing and International Relations (MIR) is responsible for the promotion of the University and its courses in order to recruit students from the UK and overseas. We use market research to develop creative strategies that explain how we can help our students achieve their goals.

MIR is responsible for external promotion; public relations; advertising and recruitment events in addition to internal communication for staff and current students. We act as trusted advisors across the institution on all matters relating to promotion and reputation.

About Us

Come to the University of Northampton and you will see that we do things a bit differently.

We are one of the youngest universities in the UK but we are already leading the way in adding value to society, which we call social impact. We have won multiple awards for our work in this area, among others, but what matters the most to us is ensuring that our students and graduates have the opportunity to make their mark on the world too. That’s why we were the first university in the UK to be named as a Changemaker Campus in 2012.

We want to break the mould of what Higher Education can be. This has led us to build a whole new University from the ground up that is designed to reflect the way that students actually learn, rather than the way they are expected to learn. Waterside Campus opened in September 2018.

Our commitment to transforming lives and inspiring change is at the heart of all that we do.

Right to Work

All candidates will be asked to provide proof of eligibility to work in the UK at interview.
