Description

The starting salary for this role is £31,273 per annum, based on a 36-hour working week.

Are you passionate about children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and are solution-focused and ready for a challenge? If so, come and join us!

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the SEND Admissions Team in the Children’s Commissioning Service of Surrey County Council. The Commissioning Service is at the centre of Children’s Services in Surrey, driving change and innovation with a relentless focus on improving outcomes for children and young people across the County.

We are looking for a passionate person to join the team which is primarily responsible for overseeing the placement process for children and young people with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) who are moving from one phase of education to another.

This particular role will be area-based, but with a strategic oversight of children and young people who are going through a phase transfer. In this role you will make placements which enable children and young people to be supported and to achieve their potential throughout their academic career. This may include placements in mainstream or specialist provision in the independent and non-maintained sector.

The role will include:

  • Establishing and embedding key lines of communication across partners, stakeholders and services, both internal and external to Surrey, ensuring compliance with statutory SEN processes.
  • Developing positive relationships with SENCOs, headteachers and sector leads to help deliver an effective service to our residents.
  • Leading on and coordinating consultations with schools and other Local Authorities for individual pupils with close liaison with internal services e.g. Virtual School, Schools Finance, Admissions and Vulnerable Leaners.
  • Contributing to the strategic developments which ensure adequate SEND sufficiency across the County, liaising with senior management to raise awareness of risks and issues relating to placement sufficiency, and supporting forecasting activities.

You will need sound knowledge of SEND legislation and processes alongside effective communication and problem-solving skills. The ability to work well under pressure to tight timescales and the ability to process and organise high volumes of data will be essential.

As a member of our team, you will be a part of the continuous improvement of our service, monitoring and evaluation of processes, analysing feedback and responding to any changes in legislation.

We are an operational commissioning service based in Woking but working across Surrey. We are a lively and busy service brokering individual placements for children and young people as well as quality assuring and monitoring provision.

At Surrey, our values and behaviours are just as important as our skills and abilities. They shape who we are as an organisation. Find out more about the values we follow.
