Description
Torfaen County Borough Council is an efficient, innovative council, working with and empowering communities. Our vision is to create a safe, prosperous, sustainable place where everyone has the opportunity to be the best they can be. We are a well-regarded council with a passionate and dedicated team of officers and elected members who are committed to creating an improved, more equal and sustainable future for the people of Torfaen.
We aim to support our communities to fulfil their potential, be safe and successful, maximising their independence and wellbeing. To this end, the Council has a renewed and reinvigorated focus on community empowerment as a central organising principal across all of our work. As part of this initiative, we have created a role to drive forward and champion our collaboration with our communities.
Reporting to the Chief Officer, you will be critical in designing and delivering this new approach, shaping how we empower communities, ensuring that community institutions play a more active role in identifying and supporting wellbeing at a local level. You will design our early intervention & prevention approach to reduce demand on statutory services, improve skills and help to alleviate the impacts of deprivation. In addition, you will develop a programme of place-based interventions to reinvigorate our towns and spaces as focal points for their local communities. Leading on the implementation of a high-quality, evidence-driven community operating model, you will possess the ability to develop strategy, convert strategy into action and lead the implementation of those actions across a wide range of services, working collaboratively with colleagues across the Council to deliver corporate objectives. Establish and maintain exceptional project management discipline, ensuring that robust processes are in place at all times. Fundamentally, you will effectively engage and enthuse communities in the design of all service provision and programmes of change, placing communities at the heart of public service.
You will bring your senior management strategic knowledge and experience, gained in a similar complex environment, utilising your knowledge of effective financial, people and project management. Experienced at leading strategic change, you will have a strong ethos to work in partnership with communities when designing and implementing that change. A strategic leader with an effective ability to influence and negotiate with a range of stakeholders, internal and external. A strong knowledge of community-led service design, using evidence to shape policy and service design and a successful track record of implementation. With demonstrable experience of community empowerment, you will have the ability to translate strategy into delivery, at pace, possess excellent financial management skills, be a great collaborator, have an innovative approach and above all else, have a strong sense of community.
We are keen to work with exceptional individuals who have the experience, energy, vision and ambition to help us create an improved, more equal and sustainable future for the residents of Torfaen. To find out more about the role and to apply: https://www.faerfield.co.uk/torfaencbc/a000198.
