Our client are seeking an experienced Applications Lead to join their team. You will be working on a Full Time, Permanent (37 hours per week) and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of £40,578 - £43,570 per annum.

The Applications Lead role:

Our client are looking for someone with drive and ambition who can cut code, help shape their software architecture, and lead an expert team of developers.

You’ll join the relatively new Innovation Team. Created at the start of 2021, it has an ambitious mandate to showcase, inspire and encourage business improvement using the latest digital technologies.

Designed to break through traditional organisational boundaries, it aims to immerse itself in automation, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, IoT, RPA, ETL, and more at the very cutting edge. The company don’t expect you to know or have used all of these. But they are learning all the time and this role will give you the opportunity to learn with them.

The company are furthering the capabilities of its home-grown case management system, Requestry, after it recently excelled as a key part of the pandemic response. They're releasing the home-grown Income Management System nationwide as part of a government-funded project to share it with other councils. They're embarking on new IoT projects and deploying LoRaWAN networks across Barnsley to read in sensor data and feed business intelligence initiatives.

You can help with this. You’ll make the decisions on how projects are structured and built. You’ll organise and guide your team. You’ll prototype ideas, try them, test them, fail sometimes (and that’s OK), demo to colleagues, pilot, and review. You’ll launch new solutions that will ultimately benefit the people of Barnsley and beyond.

Responsibilities as the Applications Lead will involve:

• Providing technical leadership across all aspects of the technology stack, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills
• Using agile working practices, test-driven developments, and continuous integration/delivery with pair programming and code refactoring as required
• Maintaining an awareness of software development trends and continually reviewing and introducing new tools to optimise delivery processes and improve the quality of work produced by the team
• Applying your expert knowledge in design workshops with stakeholders, utilising emergent design principles and patterns to produce well-engineered solutions
