Dark Horse is seeking a new Executive Director to succeed Lynda Hornsby and lead the company in its next exciting phase of strategic development.

Dark Horse, based in Huddersfield, is one of the UK’s leading and most established theatre companies of actors with learning disabilities, touring national productions with its professional resident company and offering advanced training to a neurodiverse cohort of student actors. The company is looking for an experienced, inspiring and dynamic Executive Director who, working closely with Creative Director Amy Cunningham, will shape and deliver ambitious future plans.

The Executive Director has responsibility for providing the best possible cultural and physical environment within which the artistic and operational ambitions of the company can flourish. The Executive Director leads on strategic planning as well as the internal culture, policies and legal compliance, ensuring that the organisation is not just compliant, but at the forefront of best practice. The post holder has particular responsibility for the economic success and sustainability of the company.

Responsible and reports to: The Board of Trustees

Responsible for: All permanent and freelance staff, actors and students

Salary: £34,000 - £37,000 per annum, dependent on experience

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week. The nature of this post includes the requirement to work some evenings and weekends

Base: Dark Horse, Lawrence Batley Theatre, Huddersfield

Period of contract: Permanent contract

Period of notice: Three months after 6 months probationary period

Holiday entitlement: 20 days, plus Bank Holidays increasing by 1 day a year after 2 years to a maximum of 30 days
