Description

Second in Dept/ Teacher of Religious Studies

from January 2023

This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, well-qualified and inspirational teacher to join a highly successful Department. Religious Studies is a core subject at Mayfield: all girls study the subject to GCSE and achieve outstanding results, with a similarly strong performance at A Level.

The ideal candidate will be someone who is able to show leadership and management for the successful delivery of Religious Studies in Years 7 – 9, as well as assisting the Head of Department to further enrich the GCSE and A level curriculums and extra-curricular provision and trips offered by the department. Our teachers are expected to encourage and nurture informed and independent thought in every student and the successful candidate should be able to teach all year groups and to support and challenge a range of students in an effective and engaging manner. As well as experienced candidates looking for a fresh challenge, the position may also interest an ECT wishing to aspire to a leadership role in the future.

The RS Department is important and influential in the School; working with colleagues of all disciplines, the Chaplaincy and the Headmistress to promote the ethos of the School and supporting a vibrant, diverse community of boarders and day girls.

Mayfield is a leading Catholic Independent boarding and day School for girls aged 11-18 situated in beautiful East Sussex countryside, less than 50 miles from London and 40 minutes from Gatwick. The School is an inclusive international community with a tradition of academic achievement and a holistic approach to education. We welcome applications from equally diverse and creative teachers. Results are excellent at both GCSE and A Level, with girls going on to study at Oxbridge and the best Russell Group universities. In addition we offer a vibrant and eclectic extra-curricular provision and have an enviable reputation for pastoral care.

We offer excellent working conditions in an outstanding environment. Mayfield has its own salary scale and the salary package for this position will reflect the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. All staff are expected to contribute to the extra-curricular life of the School. Accommodation may be available for those involved in boarding.

Closing date for applications: Thursday 16 June 2022

Interviews will take place w/c 20 June 2022 although the School reserves the right to interview and appoint prior to the closing date.
