BROMLEY HOUSE LIBRARY

Recruiter Type

Direct Employer

Description

Bromley House Library occupies a unique niche in Nottingham’s cultural and literary landscape. We have a dual charitable mission - to enrich the lives of our users and to preserve the physical fabric of Bromley House, a historic Grade II* listed building in the centre of the city.

A dynamic Library Director is crucial to us achieving that vision. It is the key leadership role for the library, responsible for representing and promoting the library in the city and beyond, identifying and developing key strategic partnerships and implementing the library’s strategy and vision. The Library Director oversees the management and administration of the library and its services to members, and also the challenges (and opportunities) of delivering a 21st Century service within the constraints of a Grade II* Listed building and garden with limited access, sited in the city centre.

This is a permanent position, anticipated to be worked over four days per week (30 hours) plus some Saturdays, with a salary of £41,667 pro-rata (based on a 37.5 hour week).

You will not be expected to deliver this vision alone. We have a skilled and motivated team of staff, trustees and volunteers to help us to achieve our aims, as well as a passionate and engaged membership of nearly 1,700 library members.

This is a time of challenge and opportunity. Nottingham is a UNESCO City of Literature, the bid for which was conceived within the walls of Bromley House. The library developed new services during the COVID-19 pandemic and a successfully completed roof repair project means that the building is no longer on the ‘at risk’ register. However, we still have work to do to ensure we are accessible to all those who want to join us. If this sort of opportunity and challenge appeals to you, we would be delighted to hear from you.
