At the National Trust, we have worked to protect places of Historic Interest and Natural Beauty for over 120 years. We look after a quarter of a million hectares of land and countryside, 775 miles of coastline, and thousands of archaeological monuments and historic buildings – and that’s an expensive task. We are incredibly grateful for the support our 5 million members but, as membership only covers a third of our costs, we also rely on donations and legacies to enable our vital conservation work.

A hybrid working role, based 40% at one of our South West Hub Offices (Bristol, Exeter, Tisbury or Bodmin) and up to 60% working from home.

We expect our people to balance their time working across a combination of places - this is what hybrid working means to us. It's about having the flexibility to work from different locations ; choosing the right location to suit the activity that you need to do, be that at one of our South West Hub Offices (Bristol, Exeter, Tisbury or Bodmin), a local property, a train, the great outdoors, or your home.

Given how hybrid working supports our climate action ambition, there is no expectation that we will return to pre-pandemic ways of working. We are keen to keep the best of the practices we developed during the pandemic, whilst getting a better balance of working together. Hybrid working does not change your contractual place of work. Your contractual place of work and where you physically carry out activities on a day-to-day basis can differ, but typically over the course of a week we expect you to spend 40% to 60% of your time working in a non-home location.

What you'll be doing

As one of two Philanthropy Consultants for the South West, you’ll build and strengthen special relationships with existing and potential donors with the ability to make transformational gifts to the Trust. Your background in fundraising from major donors and Trusts/Foundations, and your relationship management skills will help you to turn the National Trust’s priority fundraising projects into compelling cases for support, building lasting partnerships with some of the UK’s biggest funders and philanthropists.

As a natural team player, you will be collaborating with Philanthropy Team colleagues and senior management to provide impact reports of the highest quality and an experience that exceeds the expectations of our funders. As a result, you will help to steward and grow our vital network of supporters so that we can continue to look after the nation’s special places forever, for everyone.

Who we're looking for

• You’ll have successful fundraising campaign experience and have worked with major donors and charitable trusts and foundations.
• A proven track record in building long-term relationships with supporters will show that you can really engage with the Trust’s members and donors, nurturing relationships with authenticity.
• High-level major gifts experience and relationship management is a necessity.
• Evidence of having worked with senior volunteers, colleagues and trustees in raising substantial funds from high net worth individuals and charitable trusts or foundations.
• Superior written skills enabling you to write compelling cases for support.
