Description

Capital Theatres is Scotland’s largest independent theatre organisation and charity. As proud operator of three of Scotland’s busiest and most cherished theatre venues in Edinburgh, the Festival Theatre, the King’s Theatre and The Studio, we stage over 650 world-class shows to entertain in excess of 400,000 people per year and inspire audiences of all ages across a broad and inclusive programme featuring the very best in drama, dance, musical theatre, live music, comedy, children’s shows and pantomime. During the summer months our stages are the heart of the Edinburgh Festivals and throughout the year we run an extensive creative engagement programme of workshops and arts activities to develop community involvement in the Theatres’ work.

Passion is at the heart of what we do, our people make our environment and inspire us every day to truly make a difference to the audience and communities we serve. We believe this sets us apart and we are proud of our welcoming culture.

This is a fantastic time to join Capital Theatres as we emerge out of the last two years with a new strategy and a new zest for life. There is real opportunity to contribute to the performing arts sector and broader culture in Scotland and our new Director of Audiences will play a large part in delivering this. Reporting to the Chief Executive, you’ll hold lead responsibility for all Capital Theatres’ marketing and external communications, commercial sales strategy and maximisation, developing and implementing an inclusive strategy to grow engagement with all aspects of our work, identifying new platforms and innovative partnerships to connect with ever-broader audiences, raising our profile and driving our brand. The role will also oversee all marketing campaigns, both in our venues and for Capital Theatres’ own produced work on tour.

Our ideal candidate will have an interest in data driven insight, providing the Executive Team with strong business intelligence and analysis and supporting the organisation in making informed business decisions. You will be an experienced and inspiring leader with a proven track record in managing and motivating high performing, collaborative teams. You will have an appreciation of the arts, and a passion for people. Equally comfortable developing strategy at Executive Team level as well as working operationally to deliver against the day to day audience deadlines and targets.

Implicit is an absolute commitment to equality, inclusion and diversity, representative of the communities Capital Theatres serve in the City of Edinburgh and beyond. As a key member of the Executive Team, and prominent external advocate of the organisation, the postholder has responsibility to advocate Capital Theatres’ role in its civic duty to the city, its strategic place in the sector and in building sustainable public and private stakeholder relationships.

We encourage and welcome candidates from different backgrounds with different experiences, skills and stories to apply, particularly individuals who are underrepresented in the cultural sector. We are happy to discuss solutions that allow people to balance their caring responsibilities with their working lives, for example through job shares or flexible working.
