Description

Your starting salary in this role will be £27,991 per annum for working 36 hours per week. This rises steadily on passing successive parts of the CIPFA qualification, to a salary of circa £36k on becoming fully qualified.

Are you ready for a new challenge?

Surrey County Council's Finance team is looking for the senior leaders of the future!

It’s a great time to join us; with an exciting Financial Improvement Programme in place and a strong Community Vision for Surrey and Organisational Strategy, we’ve made huge strides over the past few years, stabilising our finances and fundamentally changing the way we work, for the benefit of Surrey residents.

We are looking for graduates to join our finance training programme who are forward thinking, influential and able to make a real impact. If you are an ambitious future leader who wants to make a real difference for the benefit of communities then we want to hear from you!

Our graduate programme enables you to develop the practical and strategic skills required to become a public finance professional. You will focus on continuous personal and professional development through a variety of challenging finance and accounting placements, whilst studying for the internationally respected Chartered Institute of Public Finance & Accountancy (CIPFA) professional qualification. The CIPFA is the only accountancy body exclusively dedicated to public financial management.

During your training programme you will be given opportunities to experience a range of work covering every aspect of financial management including:

  • Working in a service finance team supporting budget holders and service transformation projects
  • A range of specialist placements which could include pensions, risk management and Internal Audit
  • Experience of producing financial accounts and the medium-term financial plan
  • Working on key finance improvement activity, including the award-winning Finance Academy.

You should have a desire to work in the public sector and be able to consider the complexities of working in a Local Authority. You must be able to demonstrate team working skills and the ability to build relationships. As well as this, you will have excellent communication skills. You will need to be confident with handling data and have the ability to analyse issues and identify solutions.

Minimum entry requirements are 2:1 undergraduate degree in any discipline or demonstration of academic ability up to the standard of a 2:1 undergraduate degree. Also required is grade A-C GCSE in Maths and English.
