The team require experienced Welfare Rights Advisers who are able to provide specialist advice, support and training in the field of welfare benefits and tax credit law to vulnerable residents and those working in statutory or third sector organisations who are advocating and assisting individuals with their benefit issues.
The successful candidates must be conversant and able to interpret and navigate Social Security and Tax Credit law.
The main areas of the work will be to:
- Provide an advice line to staff of the Authority; statutory and third sector organisations.
- Provide specialist first and second tier welfare rights support.
- Prepare legal arguments, gather evidence and present cases at first tier appeal hearings; and when required at upper tribunals.
- Plan, prepare and deliver training courses covering a wide range of welfare benefits to statutory and third sector organisations.
- To devise information leaflets and publications that are easy to read covering areas of complex welfare benefit law.
- To provide policy advice and support.
You will be part of a busy team, where there is a heavy focus on team work whilst being able to work independently; the work of an adviser is challenging but very rewarding.
