Our client has an exciting opportunity available for a Main Grade Lecturer: Construction to join their team based in Birmingham. You will join them on a full time, permanent basis ( 22 teaching hours per week) and in return, you will receive a highly competitive salary of £23,386 to £37,862 per annum.

The Main Grade Lecturer: Construction Role:

The role of a Main Grade Lecturer (MGL) is to support the College’s aims, objectives and mission statement to provide quality education and training in response to local need. This role will also include development of their Construction and higher apprenticeship provision to support students in Higher Education.

Key responsibilities of their Main Grade Lecturer: Construction include:

  • Required to teach on a range of higher education programmes at Level 4, HNC/D and degree level with the possibility of supporting teaching on Level 3 if needed
  • Adhere to qualification requirements and tailor programmers to suit employer requirements
  • Contribute to the planning and coordinating learning programmes
  • Manage and track students’ learning programme to include administration related to tutor courses and groups, tracking documentation, monitoring targets, achieving and maintaining group size targets and arranging additional support
  • Act as a course leader providing learners with academic support, meeting their vocational and educational needs
  • Carry out student assessments which will include initial advice and guidance, initial assessment, referral for additional support
  • Carry out academic and vocational assessments
  • Support students to improve their study skills and exam techniques
  • Provide pastoral care and student support in conjunction with Student Services
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of student and course registers
  • Liaise with internal staff, schools, university partners, and other organisations with regards to recruitment, attendance and achievements, where applicable

What they are looking for in their Main Grade Lecturer: Construction:

  • Certificate in Education, PGCE, DTLLS, DET or equivalent (or be willing to work towards qualification)
  • Hold a Level 6 qualification in Construction, Building Services or Civil Engineering or relevant subject
  • Have previous experience of teaching vocational programmes in the subject area
  • Be able to teach construction technology, Science and Materials subjects or be willing to upskill.
  • Experience of using relevant up to date IT skills to support the role, such as Microsoft word, excel.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and demonstrable presentation skills
  • Demonstrable teaching skills
  • Demonstrable numeracy and literacy skills (to level 2 or equivalent)
