Summary
Lyme is offering the new Head Gardener the opportunity of
Joining a regional and national network of specialists
Training and development in a range of skills, from gardening to volunteer management to inclusion and diversity
Leadership of a nationally important public garden, at a flagship NT property
The opportunity to be involved in significant project planning and work
You'll set high standards for yourself and all around you delivering results for the gardens and our supporters. You'll be confident managing a complex garden throughout the seasons and will fully appreciate the importance of forward planning, access, interpretation, presentation and engagement.

Reporting directly to the General Manager, working with and developing a team of amazing people. Great location. Hands on Horticulture, Lyme has one foot in the rugged landscape of the Peak District, the other planted in urban Manchester. The garden is defined by undulating, windswept moorland with far-reaching views and with distinctive gritstone geology

What you'll be doing
Reporting directly to the General Manager, you’ll lead a team of staff and volunteers. You will draw on support from our reginal Gardens & Parks Consultant, Cultural Heritage Curator and a cohort of fellow lead horticulturalists.
Whilst much of your work will be hands-on horticulture, there will be an administrative element, too, managing budgets and ensuring that the gardens and your work are fully compliant. You'll enjoy transferring skills and knowledge to the team, who you'll develop and help flourish.
You will also be a member of the property leadership team, contributing to the running of the whole estate and playing a key role in the development of our future.

A passion for horticulture heritage and a keen plantsperson
A broad knowledge of plants and design/curatorship of horticultural spaces
An appreciation of garden heritage
Experience with budgets and planning work programmes
Experienced with relevant health & safety best practice
Last but nor least a . . .
A UK driving licence.
