Mental Health Team Manager (V14768)

Education and Student Support (Wellbeing Services)

This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working – some time on campus and some from home.

This full-time post is available immediately on a permanent basis.

Salary Details

This post is a grade F (£36,382 - £40,927), and attracts a market supplement of £4,000 per annum which will be paid annually in addition to base salary. The market supplement is paid in accordance with the University’s agreed policy on market supplements and the allowance is pensionable and will be reviewed in August each year.

Summary of the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic mental health professional who is able to transfer their knowledge and skills in mental health interventions and support to a Higher Education setting. The post holder will provide day-to-day oversight and line management for a team of experienced mental health practitioners providing a range of one-to-one and group interventions. You will also manage an agreed caseload of students with mental health difficulties and this will be reviewed and balanced with management responsibilities.

The role involves close liaison and joint work with other Wellbeing pathways, alongside regular liaison with other university staff and external agencies (e.g. GP, statutory mental health services and voluntary sector agencies) to ensure excellent support for students with acute mental health and/or wellbeing needs. The postholder will have the ability to work with colleagues at all levels, and demonstrate excellent communication skills to negotiate and influence.

The Mental Health team are part of the University's Wellbeing and Welfare Service, which also includes our Psychological Therapies team, AccessAbility team and Welfare service. The team provides a range of interventions alongside advice and guidance to support students in their studies. They also provide consultation, advice and mental health mentoring to ensure that students are assisted appropriately and within the requirements of the relevant legislative frameworks (e.g. Equality Act 2010).

What we are looking for

  • A qualified and highly experienced mental health professional, with core professional training in Mental Health Nursing, Social Work, or Occupational Therapy (for example), and accredited with their relevant professional body e.g. HCPC/NMC/BABCP/BACP/UKCP. Post-qualification experience in supporting individuals experiencing mental ill-health and a real interest in managing complex difficulties. Experience in supporting clients with both emerging and long-term mental health conditions and the ability to provide advice, support, and clinically informed interventions. Someone who is skilled in identifying and dealing with risk, including providing consultation and guidance to a range of university staff. Excellent communication and organisational skills in order to lead the operational delivery and development of the Mental Health Pathway team, ensuring a high standard of support is maintained.
