Description

The starting salary for this role is £22,521 per annum (pro rata to £32,173 FTE), working 25.2 hours per week.

We are seeking to appoint a driven and enthusiastic ESOL Assistant Curriculum Manager (0.7 FTE) to lead a busy, dynamic, and growing department delivering both non accredited and accredited ESOL courses from Pre-Entry Level to Level 1. The provision is delivered face to face in the daytime at our Farnham, Camberley, Guildford, Molesey and Sunbury Centres. We also have a remote evening offer.

This post is based at our Camberley Learning Centre. Travel within Surrey to our other centres and venues will be a necessity, so the post- holder will be a required car user. There will be occasional evening and weekend work

We are open to remote working meaning you aren't required in the office every day. We're less about you driving to work and more about us collectively driving down our carbon footprint. We care about how you work rather than where you work, the people rather than the postcode. In support of our people and our greener futures strategies, we'd welcome a conversation with the successful candidate on what remote working may look like for you.

As the successful candidate you will lead our team of part time ESOL tutors. You will have the ability to display a “can do” attitude and to generate high expectations, enthusiasm, and commitment from all. You will be a strong, well-qualified ESOL Skills for Life practitioner with a relevant degree, and a teaching qualification such as DTLLS/PGCE/CertEd/Level 5 Diploma in Education & Training. You will be a well-qualified graduate and experienced teacher of ESOL Skills for Life to adults and have some evidence of leadership experience.

As the successful candidate you will report to the Curriculum Manager who is responsible for ESOL, English and Maths and you will be responsible for the ESOL Skills for Life offer and delivery. You will be expected to ensure that the quality of the teaching and learning continually improves against standards set by Ofsted and embodied in the Service’s Quality Framework. You will have proven track record of organising and internally verifying (IV) ESOL Skills for Life Exams. You will have proven track record of planning and running ESOL Skills for Life IAGs which have led to the appropriate placement of learners on courses. You will work in line with local and national agendas, ensuring that the targeted course offer is inclusive and designed to raise aspirations and provide support to those in need.

You will manage the selection, appointment, performance and support of tutors and devise and implement a training programme to address tutor development needs.

This is an exciting opportunity to:

  • Support the Curriculum Manager with organising and further developing a broad course offer guided by the curriculum intent, to develop the ESOL offer across Surrey
  • Lead and develop a team of tutors to delivery of outstanding learning experiences both remotely and face-to-face
  • Support the Curriculum Manager with the ongoing programme planning process by grow and managing a mixed remote and face-to-face delivery programme
  • Liaise with the Exams Office to ensure the smooth running of ESOL Skills for Life Exams across Surrey.
  • Accurately place applicants on ESOL courses through an IAG process

To be shortlisted to interview for this position your application will clearly evidence:

  • A teaching qualification, relevant experience of teaching ESOL to adults and of a formal observation process aligned to an Ofsted inspection framework
  • Experience of managing team performance, using your initiative, prioritising workloads and meeting deadlines
  • Experience of successfully working within an Ofsted inspection framework to ensure a high standard of provision and care for learners
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and IT skills.

At Surrey, our values and behaviours are just as important as our skills and abilities. They shape who we are as an organisation. Find out more about the values we follow.

The job advert closes at 23:59 on Sunday 17th July 2022.
