Our client, a successful not-for-profit publisher is looking for a talented scientific editor to join their experienced and successful team as an Executive Editor to lead on a major journal in the field. This is a fantastic unique career opportunity to work on a prominent and highly successful journal in a senior position.

Key responsibilities

  • Drive the Journal development and editorial management in collaboration with the Editor-in-Chief
  • Working with the full team of academic editors on journal initiatives
  • Management of in-house editorial and administrative team
  • Involvement in publishing projects and cross-journal initiatives
  • Content leadership, training and support for editorial staff (commissioning, handling peer review and developmental editing)
  • Overseeing manuscript submission and supporting editorial decision-making, including ethical issues
  • Working with the Events team on scientific Journal Meetings
  • Represent the organisation and related journal at international conferences and within the wider scientific and publishing communities
  • Work with the marketing team on related journal activities.

Experience

Suitable candidates for this role will have significant editorial experience with considerable knowledge in cell biology as well as a broad knowledge and interest in science and the scientific community. Individuals must have a PhD in cell biology or a related subject. It would be advantageous if candidates have held an influential editorial role and have good contacts in the community. Previous experience in handling ethics issues would be desirable. Experience of team management or supervisory experience would be an advantage but is not essential. Excellent communication skills are essential with a confident ability to network and build strong relationships with key stakeholders.
