Description
YMCA DLG stands together with children and young people who are at risk; keeping them safe, supporting their emotional wellbeing, and enabling them to belong, contribute and thrive in their local community. We work to prevent youth homelessness across Sussex and Surrey and provide a home to 763 young people every night. We reach a further 10,000 young people and their families through our other key services, such as counselling, support and advice, mediation, and youth work, so that all young people can belong, contribute and thrive. You can hear our inspiring Young People's Stories HERE.
The Team
YMCA Horsham provides safe and secure accommodation and opportunities for young people who have been made, or are at risk of becoming, homeless. We offer a holistic support package and actively encourage residents into education, training, employment or voluntary work. Whilst living with us residents will gain many essential life skills and social skills, empowering them to move successfully into semi-independent or fully independent accommodation by completing our More Than a Room Programme. Across the Horsham Area we provide one 50 bed 24 hour staffed supported housing project for young people 16 to 25year olds and a number of shared properties providing transitional housing with visiting support.
The Role
This role involves working proactively, creatively and effectively alongside young people to develop their assets and talents and to acquire the skills they need to live independent and fulfilling lives. You will contribute to the smooth and safe running of the services by providing consistency and reliability. This will involve recording incidents, accidents and safeguarding issues and sharing information with relevant colleagues. You will also undertake housing management and health and safety-related tasks as required. This includes fire, gas and water safety, and buildings inspections.
Becoming a Bank Support Project Worker is a great way into the organisation and can be used as a stepping stone to other roles.
This role has a flexible range of shifts. The hours can include evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
Who You Are
You will ideally have experience of working with a similar client group and a good understanding of the key risks, challenges and opportunities for young people. You will be able to inspire and work proactively with young people to develop their talents and achieve the skills they need to maintain their lives independently. An excellent planner and organiser, you will be able to manage lots of tasks at the same time and keep appropriate records. Furthermore, you will be able to build strong relationships with other members of your team and will make sure that handovers are robust and clear.
We know that there are great candidates who will not fit everything we have described above, or who have important skills we have not mentioned. If that is you, please do not hesitate to apply and tell us about yourself.
