“We are dedicated to supporting and empowering young people, their families, carers and networks to enable them to reach their potential by offering a collaborative and therapeutic learning environment.

Our HOPE Service is a unique Surrey service jointly funded by Education, Social Care and Health, where we work with children with complex needs who are at risk of placement breakdown or Psychiatric hospital admission. This can typically be for between 6 months and a year. Our HOPE Management Committee have a unique and exciting opportunity for an ambitious and inspirational qualified teacher to join and lead our day programme teaching staff who are part of a multi-agency team, across our 2 sites in Epsom and Guildford, offering short stay school provision for children and young people between the ages of 11 and 17 years old.

About the role:

Our Teacher In Charge is a key service role that will be integral to delivering continuous improvement work across HOPE, ensuring that high quality educational practice and performance continues to be delivered across the day programme for our children and young people in a positive, supportive and inclusive way that meets their learning needs the children and young people referred to HOPE. You will work collaboratively the Team Managers, the Service Manager, Senior Social Workers, Lead Nurses, Senior Consultants, Therapists, Psychologists, Activity Workers, and other professional colleagues from Health and Social Care, to provide a joint up approach to meeting, monitoring and evaluating the educational needs of the young people referred to HOPE.

You will have responsibility for undertaking a range of tasks associated with the effective running of the day programmes curriculum and typical tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Leading confidently on facilitating Ofsted Education Inspections and being accountable for findings and continually striving towards any improvement journey.
  • Undertaking performance management of staff via lesson observations
  • Making sure a range of awards, appropriate accreditations and formal qualifications are available for those accessing the HOPE service
  • Supporting Team Managers with the operational delivery of the day programme as needed
  • Providing termly insight about progress attainment and attendance of the young people in the day programme Hope Outcomes Group and the HOPE Management Committee on a termly basis.

About you:

We are looking for an outstanding classroom practitioner with the ability to share good practice, who can also bring experience of having worked with young people with complex mental health needs. You will be able to successfully lead your teams and your forward-thinking outlook coupled with enthusiasm, resilience, passion, and empathy will allow you to connect people, ideas and resources to successfully lead the secondary education provision for the young people in our day programme at HOPE.
