Safeguarding Partnership (SSP) - Children's Lead, Southend, Permanent


Your new role Southend Council are looking to appoint a full time, permanent Southend Safeguarding Partnership (SSP) - Children's Lead.

Within this position, hybrid working opportunities are available, however a flexible approach is needed as you will be required to be on site.

SSP is the business unit that looks after the safeguarding partnership for providers of services to children and vulnerable adults. The strategic partners are Southend City Council, Essex Police and the Mid and South Essex Care System (Health); others include many from the third sector, health and social care providers, probation services and many more.

The role of the Children's Lead is to:

  • Assess the effectiveness of the help being provided to children and families, including early help;
  • Assess whether partners are fulfilling their statutory obligations;
  • Quality assure practice
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training, including multi-agency training, to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.

You will work directly for the SSP Business Manager and help manage the workload of the children's agenda, meetings, action/work plans and relationships; and help to develop workplans, strategy, briefings and reports.
If you have worked across sectors at a senior level, have an excellent knowledge and significant experience of safeguarding and want to work in a small but high performing team, this is the job for you!!

What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this position, you must have previous experience of strategic leadership, safeguarding and partnership working within the public sector. You need to have highly developed analytical skills to interpret and apply complex information from a range of sources to aid service improvement across agencies in the SSPC.

Have the ability to challenge, negotiate and liaise at senior levels across agencies, to achieve results and improve outcomes. You will need to demonstrate leadership skills within a multi-agency environment and have knowledge and understanding of the roles of the Council, the Police Service, the CCG and the other statutory, private and voluntary agencies which provide services to children and vulnerable adults A broad knowledge of and understanding of children's safeguarding procedures, policy and practice would also be beneficial.
