About ARU:

ARU is a global university transforming lives through innovative, inclusive and entrepreneurial education and research. We are ranked in the world’s top 350 HEIs in the 2021 Times Higher Education World University Rankings and in the top ten mainstream universities in the country for the proportion of UK undergraduates in employment 15 months after graduating. We have campuses in Cambridge, Chelmsford, London and Peterborough with around 2,500 staff and 35,000 students from 180 countries. With a focussed civic mission, we are committed to working with others through education, research and knowledge exchange to enhance the economic, cultural and social wellbeing of the communities in which we work and live.

About the role:

You’ll join our School of Life Sciences working with the Forensic Science and Crime and Investigative studies subject team, based in our Faculty of Science and Engineering. We’re a forward-looking and enthusiastic School with a vision that combines commitment to a strong and active research culture with excellence in learning and teaching. We are seeking a highly motivated academic who has the commitment and ability to make a full and active contribution to our teaching on our Forensic Science, and Crime and Investigative Studies courses at undergraduate and post graduate levels. You’ll also contribute to our research culture, working with colleagues in one or more of our research groups.

With a higher degree, ideally in forensic science or a related discipline, you will have a good understanding of forensic practice within the criminal justice system. You’ll also have teaching or training experience in higher education and/or industry. You’ll be committed to research and prepared to work as part of multi-disciplinary teams as well as developing your personal research activities. You’ll possess excellent communication skills and will demonstrate a flexible approach to work. We welcome applications from candidates who in particular can contribute to teaching in areas relevant to Forensic and Investigative Studies such as evidence-based policing, scene and laboratory investigations, UK legal systems, and crime scene analysis and novel methods of evidence recovery from crime scenes and forensic practice. Extensive past experience of working in crime scene investigation or similar role is essential. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching at all levels (Level 4 to Level 7).

We are fully committed to Athena SWAN principles to promote women in science and are keen to accommodate staff with family or caring responsibilities. You will be required to work such hours as are reasonably necessary to perform your duties and may involve occasional evening or weekend work. Flexible working requests are welcomed.

It is expected that interviews will take place online in September 2022.

For informal enquiries please contact Professor Christopher Parris, Head of School of Life Sciences at [email protected] or Dr Alvin Helden, Deputy Head of School [email protected]
