Description
We are looking for an experienced, motivated and performance driven individual to lead and be accountable for all aspects of corporate health and safety activity across the authority. The successful candidate will be required to oversee the Council’s Health and Safety function ensuring compliance, providing high quality professional advice, supporting our Leadership Team and liaising with our partners and stakeholders.

This new role will be responsible for ensuring that the council provides a safe working environment for all.
Specific duties will include:
- ensuring the Council is meeting all its statutory obligations
- collaborating and consulting with Managers to ensure compliance across service areas
- providing support to managers with risk assessment advice and any safety issues
- providing expert safety advice, training, coaching and mentoring
- chairing health and safety committee meetings with staff representatives
- investigating and leading on accident and incidents, assessing adequacy of existing controls and preventing a reoccurrence
- liaising with enforcement agencies and others on health and safety issues
- driving a positive safety culture within the workplace
- reporting to the corporate leadership team and Members
About this role
We are looking for a resilient, flexible and self-motivated individual. The successful candidate will have the following:
- Suitable relevant experience, preferably within a local government environment
- Excellent ICT literacy and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Minimum NEBOSH Diploma
- IOSH membership desirable
We offer flexible Hybrid working arrangements including a mix of remote and on site working. However, candidates must be fully prepared to be available to visit sites as and when required(sometimes at short notice) and have a full driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential.
