The starting salary for this role is £46,634 per hour for working 36 hours per week.

In Surrey we are committed to ensuring that all children with a Special Educational Need (SEN) receive a high-quality service.

We want children and their families to experience an outstanding service and we are looking to recruit a permanent SEN manager to lead the South West Team as part of our journey towards offering this. The Area SEN Manager (ASM) will work closely with the Service Managers and other quadrant ASMs to implement the service development plan.

The role will:

  • Ensure statutory responsibilities are met in the production of Education, Health and Care plans (EHCPs).
  • Ensure that Annual Reviews are completed inside statutory timescales through close partnership working with the admissions team and schools.
  • Work in close collaboration with key stakeholders such as children’s social care, health, parents/carers, children and young people to achieve the best outcomes for children.
  • Require regular attendance at panel decision making meetings.
  • Manage budgets in accordance with financial procedures.
  • Ensure complaints are handled effectively and that the team learns from these.
  • Need you to use performance data to drive forward improvements.
  • Due to the nature of the role the post holder will be required to visit local schools to develop working relationships.

You will have:

  • A professional qualification and relevant registration where required with post qualification practical experience, or substantial relevant and practical experience across a number of areas and in-depth specialist knowledge.
  • A deep understanding of relevant legislation and practice standards relating to SEND.
  • Knowledge and awareness of broader contextual factors affecting wider service delivery.
  • An ability to exercise evaluative judgement appropriately.
  • Proven written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with good negotiation and influencing skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners/professionals.
  • Competence in a range of IT tools including MS Office and database management systems.
  • High-level problem-solving skills with the capacity to devise and implement innovative solutions.
  • Demonstrable experience in successful recruitment, management, coaching and development of staff.
