Content Manager (Cancer Research Horizons)

Salary: £35,000pa - £40,000pa

Department: Research & Innovation

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Full time 35 hours per week

(We're open to a variety of ways of working, including full time, part time, job share and compressed hours providing it meets business needs)

Location: Stratford, London - Office-based with high flexibility (1-2 days per week in the office)

What will I be doing?

The Content Manager is responsible for shaping and delivering communications for Cancer Research Horizons' researcher, industry, and investor audiences, including through press activity and development of owned editorial content.

Through knowledge of cancer research and the scientific community, you'll develop and deliver a pipeline of engaging communications projects - ensuring visibility in the right places at the right time. You'll showcase great stories about Cancer Research Horizons' activities that inform, inspire and engage our researcher, industry and investor communities with our ambition to beat cancer.

Key duties include:

  • Develop and deliver a programme of engaging content to position Cancer Research Horizons as a thought-leader in the field of drug discovery and commercialisation.
  • Research, draft and distribute press releases around key milestones, issued to publications targeted at our researcher, industry and investor audiences. Proactively follow up to maximise reach.
  • Proactively build and maintain positive relationships with appropriate journal and trade-press editors to help secure editorial content - be that news, feature articles, commentary etc.
  • Drive innovation and continuous evaluation of content formats and dissemination strategies.
  • Manage suppliers and freelancers as required and contribute to a team culture of teamwork, collaboration, innovation and efficiency.

What skills are we looking for?

  • A scientific background, with excellent scientific knowledge, specifically translation research and commercialisation of research.
  • Extensive experience identifying, commissioning, writing and editing compelling stories.
  • Experience as a journalist or an in-house press officer, with a proven track record in proactive media relations.
  • An understanding of pharma/trade/financial press and academic publications.
  • Knowledge of researcher, industry and investor audiences.
  • Audience focused, with experience of using analytics to measure impact of digital communications.
  • Enjoy keeping up to date with the latest trends and findings in cancer research.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills.
  • Ability to think and plan strategically.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Desirable

  • Proven ability to communicate translational science and research. to a researcher/industry/investor audience.
  • Significant experience in developing digital content strategy, commissioning and production.
