OFFICE FOR STUDENTS

Description

Sustain and develop a culture of impactful delivery

The Office for Students (OfS) is an independent regulator for higher education in England. With a focus on delivering positive outcomes for students, we ensure that students are receiving value for money through high quality academic experiences, and that they are able to access, succeed in and progress from higher education, regardless of their background.

More than a project manager, you will be a trusted adviser to colleagues and teams at the Office for Students, using your project and operational delivery expertise to make a real impact.

In this role, you will provide challenge and support to delivery teams across the full range of the OfS’s work. No two weeks are the same. You might find yourself advising on planning for regulatory work on quality and standards; helping shape a deliverable project on equality of opportunity for students; or supporting the resourcing of one of our funding competitions. The work is varied, and you will have far reaching engagement across the whole organisation.

You will develop and provide regular insights, recommendations and advice to the OfS Directors’ Group, supporting the executive team in its prioritisation and decision making.

What you achieve will maximise the impact of our work for the benefit of students.

The role

Based in the OfS’s Portfolio Management Office (PMO), in the first instance you will take a lead on further developing support for project and operational delivery at the OfS. You will make sure we embed a culture where beneficial work gets done well, including coordinating the OfS Community of Practice for Project and Process Management. With an eye for detail, you will be able to work through complex information and draw out insights to inform decision making. Working with the Head of PMO, you will develop and implement approaches to operational measurement and improvement. And you will regularly be working across a range of areas to offer advice and to improve our impact.

About you

With good skills in project management and/or operational delivery, you will be looking to deploy your expertise with depth and breadth on work that really matters. Collaborative and approachable, you will be open to sharing your expertise and ideas, and will do so in a clear, compelling and insightful way. You will be able to relate points of detail to the bigger picture, and will be comfortable dealing with wide-ranging and complex information and data. Above all, you will be passionate about ensuring that activity is impactful and meaningful, and will enjoy working alongside people to make things happen.

Working for us

The OfS regulates the higher education sector on behalf of all students.

We value diversity and the wealth of perspectives, experience and ideas that it brings to our work and we strive to embed equality of opportunity in everything we do.

We recruit based on fair and open competition and welcome applications from candidates regardless of age, disability, race and ethnicity, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation and socio-economic background. To attract the widest possible field of qualified applicants, flexible working, for example job share and part-time working, apply to this role.

In addition, our Total Reward Framework offers a range of benefits to suit your way of life. These include comprehensive learning and development, annual leave starting at 25 days per year (plus public holidays), access to the highly regarded Civil Service pension scheme and a variety of health benefits.

Working Arrangements

The OfS is trialling a hybrid model of working, a mixture of office and remote working. Staff can work up to 60% of their hours remotely, and 40% in the office, as well as some flexibility in core contact hours.
