Description

The University of Glasgow has been changing the world for more than 560 years, and today we are one of the world's top 100 universities. We are delighted to have risen in the Times Higher Education World University rankings for the 2nd year in a row climbing up 6 places. Our people have always been at the forefront of innovation, and our past achievements inspire our current world changers.

A fantastic, new, opportunity has arisen for a Head of IT within our College of Science and Engineering (CoSE). In this newly created role, you will play an integral part within our Professional Services Leadership Team and wider Leadership Team. Reporting to the Director of Professional Services, this role brings together the existing six IT Support teams into a College-wide service capability.

This is a people management role focusing on the definition, delivery and evolution of the IT Support service within CoSE. You will be responsible for day-to-day management of the team and for defining roles and responsibilities. You will develop your team through sharing information effectively, using your knowledge and experience to coach and communicate a clear vision to ensure that your staff are productive, engaged and motivated to deliver the function's aims. You will set clear goals and smart stretching objectives that are aligned to those of the team, Schools and College. As this is a new role and function, you will also be responsible for leading the implementation of the proposed strategic transformation of the CoSE IT Services, taking it through the proposed maturity roadmap.

With a sound understanding of best practices in applying ITIL based processes to future-proof and improve the IT Services offering across complex organisation where IT and Computing are critical to research and teaching, you will provide effective leadership across IT Support Services to deliver and shape high quality, customer focussed services.

You will possess a proven track record in managing risk, compliance, audit and security obligations, including disaster recovery and business continuity procedures.

You will have the gravitas to influence and negotiate where appropriate and present complex or highly technical issues in a simplistic way. You will hold the experience of managing stakeholder engagement as well as developing and managing partner relationships and operational teams to drive optimum performance

With excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, you will have a strong customer service focus to deliver innovative solutions ensuring a consistent, proactive approach across the University.
