Central Saint Martins is seeking a Specialist Technician to provide professional technical expertise, guidance and knowledge relating to 3D capture, scanning and photogrammetry to support teaching, research and commercial activities.

CSM is a pioneering world leader in art and design education. With digital making technology constantly evolving at a rapid speed, we work at the cutting edge of new thinking and developments to prepare our students for successful careers in the creative industries of the future. The Capture Lab technical resource provides technical support to students from a range of subject areas that include, Graphic and Communication Design, Fashion, Fine Art, Architecture, Product Design, Performance, Curation and Criticism.

You will contribute critical input to student concept and expressive/creative intention, including giving feedback to students and contributing to student formative assessments, providing support for student learning, informal and formal training and instruction. You will not only bring key skills with you but will also have the opportunity to develop new skills and experience across a wide range of technical workshops.

This post is largely a flexible role and you will work to a structured roster over the course of the year.

Your profile

We are looking for a creative, self-motivated person who can contribute to the technological development of the department. You should have a qualification within the relevant area (i.e., Art and Design) or have industry experience in an area related to 3D digital making.

The successful applicant will have knowledge of 3D Visualisation:

  • Workflows related to 3D, (VR, Animation, CAD) and the gaps in between these areas such as the use of Digital 3D in Fine Art and Fashion, or designing for the Metaverse for example
  • Using key specialist software packages such as Cinema 4D, Blender, Maya, Adobe Substance, or any other necessary tools

Other Specialist knowledge of:

  • 3D Animation, VR or CAD workflows
  • 3D Capture workflows, 3D scanning or photogrammetry
  • 3D Fabrication workflows
