Our client are seeking an experienced Head of Service - Children and Family Social Care to join the team based in Barnsley. You will be working on a full time, permanent basis (37 hours per week) and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of £75,463 - £82,990 per annum.

The Head of Service - Children and Family Social Care role:

Responsibilities as our client's Head of Service - Children and Family Social Care will involve:

  • Provide strategic leadership and management for a range of human, financial and physical resources within defined services and/or geographical areas
  • Be accountable for professional advice, guidance and instruction to managers and practitioners across work units and localities, including social care, health, early years and the third sector
  • Effectively represent the Service at a range of internal and external forums, relating to the development of systems, policy and practice across the integrated services commensurate with the seniority of the post.
  • Lead the key areas of responsibility of the post, ensuring effective services are commissioned and delivered, securing best outcomes for some of the community's most vulnerable, while ensuring council services are value for money
  • Provide the leadership and management of the services and provide specialist leadership expertise relating to change management processes
  • Contribute to and promote the agenda for integration, innovation and excellence, ensuring coherence with relevant policies and strategies
  • Lead and manage the relevant service areas ensuring that the vulnerable are identified and receive a timely and responsive service according to assessed needs
  • Manage and be accountable for high level risk, decision making and assessment in relation to children in need of protection, at risk of significant harm, children on the edge of care and children in care

Skills and experience they’re looking for in their Head of Service - Children and Family Social Care:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Qualified and Registered social worker
  • Post qualifying award
  • Higher degree or post graduate leadership management qualification or equivalent
  • Experience at service manager or equivalent level of operational management in a large agency or organisation relevant to the provision of social care services for children, young people, families and adults
  • Evidence of strategy, policy or operational service development, implementation and successful evaluation through the use of performance monitoring systems including target setting and performance appraisal
  • Experience in budget management and the ability to understand and manage complex budgets and other financial information and processes
  • Strategic, operational or managerial experience of planning or delivering high quality services in a multi-agency context
