Description
South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust
Non-Executive Directors
South Central region – flexible (with travel)
Remuneration: £12,900 per annum
Time commitment: four days a month on average
South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SCAS) provides a range of emergency, urgent care and non-emergency healthcare services, along with commercial logistics services. The Trust delivers most of these services to the populations of the South Central region – Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire – as well as non-emergency patient transport services in Surrey and Sussex, and a dental service (accessed via NHS 111) in parts of Dorset.
The last two years have been the most difficult ever for the ambulance service, the NHS and the country as a whole. Our services in 999, NHS 111, Patient Transport Services (PTS) and Clinical Coordination Centres (CCCs) have had to respond to challenges that we have never seen before. The pandemic saw SCAS take a significant role in establishing eight national services on behalf of NHS England including a dedicated arm of NHS 111 made up of GPs, nurses and pharmacists to help manage the needs of patients with COVID symptoms and the National Booking Service for COVID vaccination.
The challenging times continue for us as we focus on our immediate priorities for improvement across leadership, safety and the delivery of our urgent and emergency care services. We are looking to refresh our Non-Executive Director (NED) capability with two new appointments. Those who join us will be passionate about the work we deliver, will enjoy building partnerships across the complex systems we work within and want to be part of making life better for our workforce which has had no respite from the pressure of the pandemic.
The first NED will Chair our Audit Committee and we are looking for someone who is CCAB financially qualified with current or recent Board level financial leadership experience in a complex public sector environment. The second NED will be a member of the Quality Committee we are looking for a clinical background (NHS or social care), with current or recent experience who can provide leadership and supportive challenge across our quality and safety agenda.
With significant leadership experience, you will have the highest standards of personal integrity and will also be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of, and alignment to, our values. You will need to be a strategic thinker who will understand the challenges of operating as part of a unitary board. Politically astute, you will enjoy engaging and working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that SCAS delivers its priorities and works effectively with its system partners.
We want our Board to provide a broad spectrum of lived experience and are keen to attract candidates who can bring diverse perspectives. We welcome expressions of interest from the widest possible range of backgrounds, particularly those who are under- represented at Board level in the NHS.
